Legacy Building
Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 10:16AM This week Advisory Board Member Yahya Henry looks to our future. You can find out more about Yahya on the B2S Team page.
When I think of the opportunity we presently have before us, I’m encouraged by our history. Architect Julia Morgan is brought to mind when I think about what can be achieved against, seemingly all odds. Mrs. Morgan is recognized as one of the greatest women in architecture and was instrumental in California's architectural history. She began her career at a time when women had very few rights; yet she went on to design over 700 buildings in California.
“My buildings will be my legacy... they will speak for me long after I'm gone.” Julia Morgan
At our fingertips, it seems, we can peek inside a crystal ball to see the future. I’d argue that within that crystal ball is a timeline on Twitter cataloguing conversations from around the world as they happen. What will our crystal ball read? If one woman could be responsible for designing over 700 buildings, how much more can we do now? I’m talking about legacy. Our generation has never seen a downturn this far reaching. Many of us have never seen an opportunity this great either.
I’m a cautious optimist and view everything with one eye bright and clear and the other murky and teary – the human element is quite interesting. I feel the building industry is at the proverbial fork-in-the-road and is still trying to make its decision on which way to go. The idea in finance was that a few institutions were “too big to fail”; well our industry emissions are too big for us to fail to go in the right direction. There will not be any government bail outs for this one. It will take Morgan-like determination to make things happen. We shall see.

It is cool that people can receive the mortgage loans moreover, this opens up new opportunities.
